DOHA: Qatar football giants Al Duhail and Al Sadd were drawn against Iranian teams at the official draw ceremony for the AFC Champions League quarter-finals held in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.

At the AFC Headquarters in the Malaysian capital, the only unbeaten team in this year’s tournament, Al Duhail were drawn against Iran’s Persepolis while Al Sadd were tied up for a quarter-final meeting against Esteghlal.

Al Duhail enjoyed completing a glorious domestic treble by winning the QNB Stars League, Qatar Cup and the Amir Cup last week.

Coach Djamel Belmadi’s men won all six of their group matches before back-to-back wins over former champions Al Ain from the United Arab Emirates with a commanding 8-3 aggregate in the Round of 16.

They will be looking to continue their perfect record when they take on the Iranian League champions in the first leg which will take place in Doha on August 28.

The return leg will be played in Tehran on September 18.

On the other hand, Al Sadd were only second to Al Duhail in the domestic contests and were the runner-up in the QNB Stars league and Qatar Cup tournaments back in Doha.

In the continental tournament, in Group C, Al Sadd, led by Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez recorded four wins and two losses to finish as the group runners-up behind Persepolis.

They head into the quarter-final following a 4-3 win against Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli on aggregate in the Round of 16.

Al Sadd’s first-leg match will take place at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran on August 27 and they will host the Iranian counterparts in the return leg on September 17.

The draw ceremony was attended by representatives of both Qatari clubs.

The Al Duhail delegation included team manager Ismail Ahmed and Media Officer Mohammed Bashir Al Sulaiti while Al Sadd were represented by Sport Director Mohammed Gholam Al Balooshi and Team Manager Abdullah Al Breik.
