Al Shahaniya win promotion for QNB Stars League
DOHA: Al Shahaniya has joined QNB Stars League officially after Al-Wakrah lost to Muaither SC in a key Second Division clash at Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium.
Al Shahaniya had fallen to Second Ddivision last season but the club dominated this season from the early stages and qualified with two rounds to spare in the five-team league
It should be noted that Qatar Football Association (QFA) regulations stipulates that the club coming in last position in First Division will join the Second Division, while the club ranked 11th in the First Division will play against the club ranked second in Second Division.
Al Wakra, with 15 points, will be eliminated two weeks before the end of the league, while Al Shahaniya, with 22 points, have qualified for the top tier of football in the country. Muaither have 11 points while Mesaimeer have a tally of 10.
In another match between Al Shamal and Messeimeer, played by Al Shamal Stadium, ended with a goalless draw. The match saw the expulsion of Al Shamal player Ali Mujbil in the 70th minute.
The competition will continue with action in round 14 on March 14 with two matches at the Saud Bin Abdulrahman Stadium. Muaither will meet with Al Shahaniya at 5:00pm followed by Al Wakra taking on Al Shamal at 7:30pm.
The final round will be played on April 5 when Al Shahaniya will meet Al Wakra and Muaither take on Messaimeer.
