DOHA: Al Waab clinched the Qatar Amateur League (QAL) title in its fourth edition for the third time, making them the team that won it most times since its kick off in 2013/2014 sports season after winning 1-0 again EIS Pearl CFC.

The QAL 2016/2017 champions were given the trophy by Hani Balan, Executive Committee Member of the Qatar Football Association (QFA), at the coronation ceremony following the final match which took place in Al Ahli Stadium at 6pm on Friday 27th January.

The coronation ceremony was attended by Fahad Thani, Director of Football Development at the QFA, Ibrahim Shaheen, Chairman of the QAL Organising Committee, and Sami Al Shammari, Executive Director for Administration at the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy.

Organised by the QFA with support from the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), the Strategic Partner of the QAL since 2013/2014, this year’s edition has witnessed the participation of 12 teams which include Al Waab, EIS Pearl CFC, Lusail, Doha, Al Kaabaan, Al Quds, Copros, Al Bidda, Ezdan, Madinat Khalifa, Amwaj, and Al Matar.

A special prize worth 5000 Qatar Riyals was given to the top scorer of the league, Noor El Din Bousar, who played for the EIS Pearl CFC and scored a total of 9 goals throughout the league.

The first place team (Al Waab) received a cash prize of 150,000 Qatari Riyals and gold medals, while the second place team (EIS Pearl CFC) received 100,000 Qatar Riyals and silver medals, and the third place team (Al Quds) received 80,000 Qatari Riyals and bronze medals.

This year the league kicked off on 25th October and was played across various venues in Qatar including Doha Stadium, Al Ahli Stadium and QFA’s Football Development Department pitches.

Al Waab finished the season with a tally of 29 points after winning 9 matches, and drawing 2. EIS Pearl CFC came in second with a tally of 25 points after winning 8 matches, drawing 1, and losing 1. Third place team Al Quds collected a total of 21 points.
