DOHA: The fifth edition of the Asian Communities Championship has
kicked, organisers confirmed in front of ambassadors representing
scores of Asian countries.

According to details released by Qatar Football Association (QFA), the
Asian Communities Championship will also see matches being played when
the Emir Cup kicks off next month.

The multi-team event has been a massive success with communities
working and living in Qatar.

The opening game of the championship was played at Al Ahli Stadium,
details showed on Wednesday.

The matches this week will be attended by a number of Asian
ambassadors to show their continued support to their communities and
the tournament.

In games already played so far, Indian Community beat Jordanian
Community 2-1 while Lebanese Community edged past Indonesian
Community.

In a one-side affair, the Nepalese Community crushed Japanese
counterparts 10-0.

In games this week, South Korea will take on China, Sri Lanka play the
Philippines, Malaysia battle Nepal while Indonesia face Jordan.

A total of 12 teams are featuring in the event in two groups.

The initial part of the event will see teams playing across five
weekends. The quarterfinals will take place on April 14 and 20 while
the semis will be held on April 21.

Past winners include Indonesia (2103), Jordan (2014), Lebanon (2015)
and India (2016).
