Fossati expands selection pool ahead of World Cup qualifiers

DOHA: Qatar coach Jorge Fossati has brought together players of the
national Olympic and senior teams ahead of the side’s 2018 FIFA World
Cup qualifying matches this month.
 
Qatar are preparing hard for their Asian Zone matches against Iran in
Doha on March 23 and Uzbekistan (away clash) on March 28.
 
Players of Al Rayyan and Lekhwiya – who are part of the national team
set-up – conducted a special training session on Wednesday. On the
same day, a number of Qatar Olympic squad also trained under the
watchful eyes of coach Fossati, team officials said on Thursday.
 
Players Karim Boudiaf, Asim Madibo, Muhammad Musa, Louise Martin, Ali
Hassan Afif, Moaaz Ali, Ismail Mohammed, Musab Al-Khader, Ahmed Alaa,
Sebastian Syria, Rodrigo Tabata, Omar Barry had left the national team
training camp to represent Al Rayyan and Lekhwiya in their AFC
Champions League games.
 
Those players were back in action on Wednesday following their AFC
Champions League games. A total of 14 Qatar Olympic squad players are
trained at the national camp.
 
Fossati has given players a day off on Thursday, team officials have
confirmed.
On Friday, the players will assemble again but the session will be
held behind closed doors. On Saturday, the squad will train with the
Qatar Olympic team, QFA said on Thursday.
 

Last week, Qatar lost to Azerbaijan 2-1 in a friendly at Al Sadd Stadium.
