VALENCIA: Qatar on Tuesday will play Argentina in their opening clash at the C.O.T.I.F Torneo Internacional de Fútbol Sub-20 de L’Alcúdia.

Coached by Oscar Cano, Qatar are preparing for their defense at this year’s AFC U-20 Asian Cup , an event they won in October 2014.

Other teams in Qatar’s group include Mexico, Costa Rica and Morocco.

In the opening game of the tournament, Mexico and Costa Rica played out a goalless draw on Monday.

Qatar who trained in Switzerland ahead of the on-going event arrive for the game having won a friendly last week.

Qatar squad has been in training for the last three days, breaking down their sessions for fitness and on-field tune-ups.

Cano has been with the team since early this guiding the squad at different overseas training camps.

“This is a good event for the boys,” Cano said on Monday. “I think the boys are raring to go. We are delighted to be here.

“We have a fighting bunch of boys ready to impress with their football.

“This tournament will prepare us well for the AFC Asian Cup title defense later this year. We will get good match practice,” he said.

Team manager Fahad Al Shammari said: “The squad has trained well. The coach and the backroom staff have been helping the youngsters with full devotion.”

“Some of the top teams like Argentina and Mexico are here. We should do well,” he said.

The tournament ends on August 4.
