DOHA: The Qatar Football Association (QFA) President has returned from his Brazil trip where he met with top football and sports officials.

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, who was in Brazil for two days, termed the visit ‘fruitful’.

“I went to Brazil to extend our support to the wider football community in South America. It was a successful trip as I met with a number of top-ranking football and sports officials,” he said.

“You could say the trip was mighty successful on all fronts,” he said.

“We had gone to Brazil to extend our condolences to the Brazilian football family after the plan crash that killed members and
supporters of the Chapecoense football team,” he said.

“It was a painful incident for all of the football world,” he said.

Ciao Junior, the former Al Gharafa coach, was among those killed in the December 3 plane crash.

Sheikh Hamad said the two countries also discussed matters relating to 2022 FIFA World Cup which Qatar will host.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup was held in Brazil.
