Doha: The Qatar Football Association (QFA) President, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani met with the President of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) David Chung today November 15 in QFA’s headquarters in Al Bidda Tower, Doha, Qatar.

QFA Vice President Saoud Al Mohannadi, QFA General Secretary Mansoor Al Ansari, and Executive Director of the QFA President office Ali Dawood attended the meeting.

The visit of the OFC President represented a new beginning for Qatar-Oceania relations and signaled potential collaboration opportunities between the two parties in the near future.

During the meeting, both parties discussed ways of supporting the football system, which will be of benefit to both parties and will ensure the development of football at all levels locally, regionally and internationally.

Bilateral relations concerning football and ways to enhance and develop them further in the future were also discussed. There were talks about the possibility of signing a cooperation agreement between the two parties, which will enhance relations and further develop them. The coming period will focus on ways to develop the cooperation between the two sides and ways to share knowledge and experience between them.

They also discussed matters of mutual interest and the importance of developing them in the coming period in Qatar and the OFC and means to enhance the cooperation between the two organisations.

The OFC President thanked the QFA President for the warm welcome and gracious hospitality extended to him during his visit to Qatar.

He also praised the current infrastructure development in Qatar in preparation from the 2022 FIFA World Cup and applauded the commitment shown by Qatar for wanting to showcase a tremendous and memorable event.

He said: “Qatar has a high level of sports infrastructure, which enables it to host the most important sporting events and championships. Hosting big sports events and tournament leaves the country and the region as a whole a lasting legacy that benefits the present and future generations of Qatari citizens and residents in Qatar.”

The OFC President also wished New Zealand the best of luck for tomorrow’s qualifying match against Peru for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia which if they win, would be their third appearance in the global event and would reflect positively on football in the Oceania region.
