Stage set for Emir Cup final: Organizing Committee
DOHA: The Organizing Committee of the Emir Cup final held a press
conference at the Khalifa International Stadium on Wednesday to
discuss the preparations for the final to be contested between Al
Rayyan with Al Sadd on Friday.
The conference was attended by Hassan Al Kuwari, Chief Operating
Officer of the Organizing Committee, Jassim Al Jassim, Marketing and
Communications Manager, and Lieutenant Fahad Buhindi, Representative
of the Ministry of Interior.
Officials said the gates of the stadium will be thrown open at 3.30 pm
tomorrow to launch mass events for two hours before the 7:00pm
kick-off. The fan zones will have set-up eateries around the stadium,
it was said.
The opening ceremony will be held at 6:30pm, exactly half an hour
before the official kick-off.
The Organizing Committee said that the stadium has hospitality 64
suites for VIPs. A limited number of tickets have been offered for
testing, and a number of them have been distributed to partners,
sponsors and supporters of the two finalists.
Two suites have also been allocated so that the game could be watched
with relative ease for people with special needs.
Lieutenant Buhindi, representative of the Ministry of the Interior,
said security-wise the stadium has been made fully secure with police
force already patrolling the surrounding areas of the stadium.
He said uniformed police will also help fans with directions to their
seat once they enter the stadium. Exit and entry points will also have
security personnel manning the gates.
He called on the public to cooperate with the police force while
entering or exiting the match venue.
Hassan Rabia Al-Kuwari said 10,000 tickets were put on sale for the
public on Monday. He added that tickets for Al Sadd and Al Rayyan’s
sponsors were also distributed.
Players and officials who featured at the 1976 opening ceremony of the
stadium will also be present for the final on Friday. A host of
high-ranking football officials from across the region and dignitaries
have been invited, he said.
