The 4th University League official draw took place this weekend in Qatar Foundation’s Recreation Center.

This season will feature 8 colleges and universities from across Qatar, drawn into two groups of four. The universities will first play group stage matches followed by a semi-finals stage contested by the top two teams from each group.

Group A includes Qatar University, Texas A&M University at Qatar, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar and Qatar Aeronautical College.

Group B includes Northwestern University in Qatar, University of Calgary in Qatar, Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar and College of the North Atlantic – Qatar.

Preparations for the fourth edition of the University League have been completed with matches set to begin on Thursday, 20th October. Matches will be played every Thursday at 6pm and 7pm, with a winter break scheduled between 1st December and 12th January. The games will be held on Pitch One at Qatar Foundation, in an 8-a-side format, and the closing ceremony will take place on 19th January.

Speaking at the launch of the new season, Ibrahim Shaheen Al Sulaiti, Vice Chairman of the School and University League Committee in Qatar Football Association (QFA), noted that the fourth edition will be even more competitive and exciting than previous editions.

He said: “We are delighted to organise the University League for the fourth season. One of the unique things about the University League is the level of competitiveness witnessed by the teams throughout the tournament.”

He added: “Organising the league with Qatar Foundation highlights our mutual objective in spreading the most popular sport in the world among young people at the university level. We thank our sponsors for their ongoing support and commitment towards the development of the sport in general and this league in particular.”
The sponsors of this year’s edition include the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy who are the Official Strategic Sponsor, Nike, Al Kass, QNB, and Ooredoo, the Official Telecommunications Partner. Ooredoo have come on board this year for the first time and will be supporting the University League for the upcoming three seasons.
