Bogor, Indonesia: Abdulrasheed Umaru’s seven goals saw the Qatar ace

finish as top scorer at the AFC U-19 Championship Indonesia 2018 which

concluded on Sunday.

The 19-year-old striker found the net in four of his country’s five games at

the tournament, including a hat-trick against Indonesia during Qatar’s

remarkable 6-5 group stage victory.

“I really want to thank my teammates,” he said after helping guide the Qatar

to the semi-finals before they were beaten by eventual runners-up Korea

Republic.

“Every goal I scored was because of their hard work, so I must give them

a lot of credit.

“I still don’t really believe we lost in the semi-finals, but I am really glad

we got that far. I truly hope that everyone in Qatar is happy with us and

our effort in this tournament.

“Ultimately, there were better teams than us, however we did everything

we could. I am sure I will learn from this experience.”

Umaru’s teammate, Hashim Ali, finished tied for second place with losing

finalist Jeon Se-jin after both players bagged five goals apiece.
