DOHA: Hani Ballan, the member of the Executive Committee of the Qatar Football Association (QFA) and CEO of the Qatar Stars League, crowned Al Bidda as the champions of the Second Division Cup.

This is the first title triumph for Al Bidda in the club’s brief history.

Al Bidda defeated Al Kharaitiyat in a penalty shootout in the final on Friday at Thani Bin Jassim Stadium.

Al Bidda won the title after both teams failed to score during regulation time. In the penalty shootout, goalkeeper Mamadou lifted Al Bidda to title glory.

It should be noted that the two teams qualified for the final after their victory over Al Waab and Lusail, respectively, in the two semi-finals. Al Kharaitiyat posted a 2-0 victory over Lusail while Al Bidda won 5-4 on penalties against Al Waab.

The teams of Lusail, Al-Bida, Al-Waab and Al Kharaitiyat qualified for the semi-finals of the Second Division after the end of the third round matches at the conclusion of the preliminary round.

The ranking of the fourth group finished with Lusail 7, Al Bidda 4, Muaither 3 and Mesaimeer 3. In contrast, Al Waab of the second group came 6, Al Kharitiyat ranked second with 5, Al Shahaniya 4 and Al Markhiya 1.

The tournament system stipulates that the first and second of each group qualify for the semi-finals, and the first of the first plays with the second of the second and the first of the second with the second of the first.

Mesaimeer were the defending champions who also won the title in the 2019-2018 season, while Muaither won the 2017-18 and 2019-20 titles.
