Al Duhail win 50th Amir Cup
DOHA: Al Duhail on Friday clinched the title of the 50th edition of the Amir Cup courtesy of an empathic 5-1 win over Al Gharafa at Khalifa International Stadium.
At the Khalifa International Stadium, there were five different scorers for Duhail, but it was Edmilson Junior who stole the spotlight, putting on a brilliant performance worthy of a marquee clash.
HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Thani, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani, HE Sheikh Jassim bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, Speaker of the Shura Council HE Hassan bin Abdulla Al Ghanim and a number of sheikhs and ministers attended the match.
The final was also attended by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, a number of heads of Arab and international sports associations.
Al Duhail ace Edmilson Junior’s opened the scoring on 6 minutes before Michael Olunga (18’) and Almoez Ali (52’). Ferjani Sassi (58’) and substitute Abdelrahman Mohamed Moustafa (85’) also found the net with Duhail deservedly claiming their fourth Amir Cup title.
It was a carnival atmosphere at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 venue as all the available seats were filled, with the attendance limited to 75 percent capacity of the iconic 40,000-seater venue as part of COVID-19 protocols.
