DOHA: Al Sadd regained the Sheikh Jassim Cup. In Wednesday’s final, often played at a low tempo due to the sultry weather, at the Lekhwiya Stadium, Sadd defeated Lekhwiya 3-2.

Brazilian striker Muriqui, who joined from Asian champions Guangzhou Evergrande last month, scored a brace late into the game.

His compatriot Rodrigo Tabata had put Sadd in front in the seventh while Vladimir Weiss equalised two minutes later.

Youssef Msakni then gave Lekhwiya the lead in the 71st, but Muriqui’s goals ensured a Sadd a deserving triumph.

Sadd coach Housseine Amouta said, “The players were in good shape today after a successful summer training camp. The positives of the match were that Muriqi was able to fit in with the team quickly and was able to make us favourites to win the match. Winning the cup tonight will give the players a boost ahead of the AFC Champions League match against Al Hilal.”
