DOHA: Al Sadd coach Hussein Ammouta was rather philosophical about the outcome of his side’s Asian Champions League tie against Saudi Powerhouse Al Hilal, despite the result meaning that Al Ahli’s 2-1 victory over Sepahan of Iran means his side now shares the top spot with the Emirati side.

Talal Al Bloushi had put Al Sadd in front but a brace from Al Hilal playmaker Thiago Neves first tied the scores and then put the visitors into the lead.

But former champions Al Sadd were not to be denied and Nadir Belhadj struck the equaliser five minutes past the hour mark to keep the Qatari’s in pole position in the group with Al Hilal three points behind the group leaders.

And in a fortnight’s time the reigning Qatar league champions will face a return leg in Riyadh against Al Hilal in what could well be a must-win game for their hosts.

“Despite the result, I’m satisfied with the performance as the players put in a lot of effort. The two sides had an entertaining match especially on the attacking side and was clear due to the big chances that the two teams had,” said coach Ammouta.

“We could have got a better result because we created many scoring chances in the second period. However, the draw is not a bad result and we must continue working hard as they next matches are not going to be easy.”
