DOHA: Gutsy Lekhwiya on Friday scripted a memorable fightback to win
their maiden Emir Cup title after a penalty shootout against title holdersAl
Sadd at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.

The final was witnessed by the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al
Thani and scores of other dignitaries.

Lekhwiya scored of all their four penalties after both ended teams
ended 2-2 in regulation time.

Korean import Nam Tae-hee scored the decisive penalty after team-mates
Alain Dioko, Luiz Martin and Chico Flores fired home with ease. The
fifth penalty was not needed.

Al Sadd’s Khalfan Ibrahim, Nadir Belhadj and Ibrahim Maged missed
their penalties to see Lekhwiya seal a 4-2 scoreline.

Earlier, Baghdad Bounedjah (62) and Abdulkareem Hassan (67) opened the
scoring for the defending championsside who wereaiming to complete a hat-trick ofEmir Cup wins.

However, Lekhwiya saw Flores (70) and Nam (77) produced two
second-half goals to force a penalty shootout to decide the winner.

It was coach Djamel Bedlmadi’s first Emir Cup win with Lekhwiya who
have dominated Qatar Stars League (QSL) over the last few years.

For Al Sadd, coached by Jesualdo Ferreira, it was a season without
silverware. Al Sadd had reached the final as the defending champions,
having won the last two editions.

Al Sadd had beaten Al Rayyan in the semifinals whereas Lekhwiya had
downed El Jaish in the last-four stage.
