Doha: The much-awaited Emir Cup trophy tour kicked off in grand fashion at Al Bidda Tower, the home of football in Qatar.

An annual affair, the trophy tour will make numerous stops around the country as it builds up a football frenzy ahead of the Emir Cup final to be played on May 19.

The trophy tour will stop at schools, government organizations and private institutions over the course of next few weeks.

The trophy tour helps fans get to know the history of the country’s most popular football tournament held every year.

Officials of QFA headed by Ahmed Al Buainain, member of the Executive Committee of QFA, Mansoor Al Ansari, Secretary General of QFA, Abdullah Al Saai, Director of Competitions and Players Department, Hamad Al Mannai, Chairman of the Competitions Committee, and Khalid Mubarak Al Kuwari, Director of Marketing and Communication Department, and a large number of staff were present to kick off the trophy tour at Al Bidda Tower.

The trophy tour will include visits to the Cultural Heritage Center Al Wakra Park, Aspire Park, Sealine Zone and Souq Waqif. This is the first time that the prestigious Cup has been promoted with the participation of ‘Tawaf Qatar’ bus.

Al-Buainain, member of the Executive Office of QFA said: “The trophy tour is an integral part of the Emir Cup journey every football season. We are thrilled to launch this year’s journey at Al Bidda Tower.”

He added: “The participation of schools and government institutions is important to us and underlines how imbedded this tournament is within sports tradition of everyone living in Qatar ”

Khaled Mubarak Al Kuwari, Director of Marketing and Communication, said: “The trophy tour of the Emir Cup, which is being held in partnership with Qatar Tawaaf, is different this year from the previous seasons. The trophy tour is divided into two morning and evening sessions to include schools and sponsors.”

He added: “We thank Qatar Tawaaf for their cooperation with us in this trophy tour, which will also visit various parts of Qatar before reaching the Khalifa International Stadium for the final.”
