DOHA: The West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) and Local Organising Committee of the 8th WAFF Championship for Men announced that Fifty One East – Sony will be sponsoring the cash prizes for the Top Scorer and Best Goalkeeper of the championship this year.

Reaching a total of USD 50,000, the awards aim to add to the importance of the championship and reinforce the importance of the championship in the West Asia region.

Fifty One East, the premium luxury retail chain in Qatar, and Sony, the leading global consumer electronics brand will present the Best Player with prize money of USD 20,000, while the Top Scorer will receive USD 15,000, and the Best Goalkeeper will receive USD 15,000.

Fifty One East – Sony plays a vital role in developing the football scene in Qatar and is one of the leading sponsors of the Qatar Football Association’s (QFA) happenings.

Saoud Al Mohannadi, CEO of the Local Organising Committee of the 8th WAFF Championship expressed appreciation of Fifty One East’s and Sony’ support and said: “We thank Fifty One East – Sony for their immense contribution to this key championship. Awarding these special prizes demonstrates that QFA and Fifty One East – Sony partake in such partnerships to enhance the game. The support provided by Fifty One East – Sony for the championship is greatly valued and it will surely reflect positively on this significant championship.”

He added: “We are confident that a championship with this magnitude deserves these special awards and will only develop it further in the region.”

Fadi Zureikat, General Secretary of WAFF regards the allocation of USD 50,000 to the best player, top scorer and best goalkeeper makes the eighth edition of this championship the best ever in the history of WAFF championships.

He commented: “Fifty One East – Sony’s initiative in providing cash prizes for the 3 categories of the tournament is a step towards enhancing the value and importance of this edition that is held in Qatar, and we appreciate this distinctive initiative.”

Kick starting on 25th December, 2013, the 8th WAFF Championship’s Final match will take place in Al Sadd Stadium on 7th January, 2014 at 7:00 pm. The 3rd and fourth place decider match will kick-off at 3:10 pm and will take place on the same day at the same place and will
