DOHA: Iraq on Friday rallied from a goal deficit to beat hosts Qatar
2-1 in the AFC U-23 Championship play-off and qualify for the 2016
Olympic Games.

Qatar took the lead through a field goal scored by Ahmed Alaa in the
27th minute.

Both teams walked off the pitch with Qatar leading the game but things
dramatically changed late in the second half when Iraq’s Mohanad
Abdulraheem found the back of the net in the 86th minute to force the
game into extra time.

Once again, Qatar wasted numerous chances to score in extra time but
Iraq made the most of their chances, scoring the winner in the 109th
minute through Aymen Hussein.

Qatar captain Abdelkareem Hassan hit the crossbar with a close-range
header late in the second half of the extra time.

Japan and South Korea – who have already qualified for the football
competition of the 2016 Olympic Games – will meet in the final of the
three-week event on Saturday.

Qatar, coached by Felix Sanchez, had an impressive run until the
semifinals when they lost to South Korea.

In the earlier rounds, Qatar posted wins over China, Iran, Syria and
North Korea.

A total of 16 teams featured in what was an Olympic Games qualifying event.
