Khoukhi Brace Fires Qatar to Claim WAFF Title
DOHA: In only their second appearance in the tournament; hosts Qatar won their maiden West Asian Football Federation title after beating Jordan 2-0 in the final match held at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium on Tuesday.
Al Arabi midfielder Boualem Khoukhi, who had an exceptional tournament, scored both goals.
Jordan, who made it to the inter-continental play-off of the 2014 World Cup qualification recently, had started as the favoutites, but Qatar gave them a torrid time before Khoukhi struck in the 52nd and 81st minutes to put it beyond their reach.
WAFF President Prince Ali bin Al Hussein awarded the winners in the presence of AFC chief Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa and his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani.
Earlier, Bahrain defeated Kuwait 3-2 to finish third.
