Lekhwiya arrive in Guangzhou for AFC Champions League clash
GUANGZHOU,China: Qatar’sLekhwiyaon Monday arrived here for the first-leg of its AFC Champions League quarter-final with Chinese team GuangzhouEvergrandeon Wednesday.
Lekhiwya’sBelgian coach EricGeretsLekhwiya, who was pleased by the team’s qualification to the last-eight of AFC Champions League 2013, put the squad through a rigorous training camp held outside the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur recently.
The team played a friendly againstSelangorof Malaysia which ended in a draw.
Geretssaid all players are upbeat and looking to raise the bar in the key clash.
AlgerianMajidBougherraand TunisianYoussefMsaknilooked in peak condition in training while Senegal’sIssiaris under rehab, undergoing therapy session on medical advise,Geretsaid.
Ali HassanAfifis still recovering from his injury while Ahmed Al Emadihas returned to Doha after suffering an injury during training, a club official said.
The return clash will take place on September 18 in Doha.
Lekhwiyacontingent, which includes technical, medical and administrative staff, is headed by club CEO and General Secretary AdnanAl Ali.
