DOHA: The AFC Champions League East Zone matches will start in Qatar on November 18 with the participation of several top clubs.

The East Zone matches will be held at four stadiums three of which are 2022 FIFA World Cup venues namely – the Khalifa International Stadium, the Education City Stadium and Al Janoub Stadium in addition to Jassim bin Hamad Stadium.

All venues have had cooling technology.

An AFC delegation is already in Doha and continues to monitor the LOC proceedings. The LOC has completed arrangements that include preparing hotels, training venues and transportation.

The LOC’s preparation also includes implementing COVID-19 protocols authorized by the Ministry of Public Health. Multiple swab tests will be conducted before the start of the matches and during the event to ensure the players, officials, backroom staff and LOC representatives are safe from any possible COVID-19 threat.

Medical coverage will be expanded at all hotels while clinics are located at the match stadiums and training pitches. Ambulance service will be available at training grounds and hotels all day during the entire tournament.

Qatar, through the expert of assistance from the LOC, has pledged to make the tournament a success. Qatar delivered a hugely successful event when Doha hosted the West Zone matches in Sept-Oct.

Qatar will be hosting the East Zone matches at 2022 FIFA World Cup venues which will give the LOC teams more exposure to gathering experience in staging the event in testing times.

It is worth noting that the tournament will start on November 18 with a match at the newly-built Education Stadium. The opening match will be played between China’s Shanghai Shenhua FC and Australian side Perth Glory FC.
