BANGKOK, THAILAND: Qatar’s U-23 coach Felix Sanchez expressed his dissatisfaction at the performance of Al-Annabi during a 2-2 draw with Syria on Thursday.

Qatar drew with Syria in the opening clash of the AFC U-23 Asian Cup hosted by Thailand.

The Jan 8-26 event is a qualifier for the 2020 Olympic Games.

“I am happy with the result of the tie, as it is an opening game for us in the tournament, and it had its characteristics. There are small areas in which we did not do well,” Sanchez said at the press conference.

Substitute Ahmad Dali struck late on to salvage a point for Syria as they came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Qatar in Group B on Thursday.

“The match was difficult for the Syrian team, but they managed to score the equalizer in injury time,” Sanchez added.

“We suffered from long balls in some periods and made some mistakes that cost us the equalizer,” he said.

“Al-Annabi lost two points in the meeting, but we did not lose the match. We will try to correct mistakes,” Sanchez said.

Qatar will next be in action when they face Saudi Arabia, before completing  their group stage matches against Japan on Jan 15.
