Qatar drops on spot in FIFA rankings
Zurich, Switzerland: Despite securing top place in their 2018World
Cup/2019 Asian Cup joint qualification group; Qatar have descended
one spot in the monthly FIFA rankings for this month.
Now ranked 86, Qatar posted a convincing 3-0 away victory in Bhutan
to clinch top spot in Group C regardless of the outcome of their two
remaining matches in the group against Hong Kong and China.
Just days preceding the Bhutan trip, Al Annabi were handed a 1-2 friendly
defeat to Turkey at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, Doha.
Coached by Daniel Carreno, Qatar has accumulated a tally of 401 points.
Iran continued to lead the Asian rankings at 45th, followed by Korea (51st), Japan
(53rd), Australia (57th) and United Arab Emirates (65th).
Overall, Belgium occupied the top spot in a year-ending rankings chart for
the first time in its history. Argentina, Spain, Germany, Chile, Brazil, Portugal,
Colombia, England and Austria followed suit in the top 10.
