TASHKENT, Uzbekistan: The draw for the U-23 Asian Cup 2022 in Uzbekistan was held on Thursday in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent.

Qatar’s Olympic team was placed in Group A along with Uzbekistan – the host country – Iran and Turkmenistan.

This tournament constitutes a prominent stop for future stars in Asia. It is being held for the first time in the Central Asian region, where Uzbekistan will host 32 matches Tashkent and Qarshi from June 1 to 19.

Football powerhouses Australia, Jordan, Iraq and Kuwait, are in Group B while South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia are in Group C. Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Japan, and Tajikistan are in Group D.

Previous editions of the tournament witnessed the launch of the career of many Asian stars, including the Iranian Mahdi Tarimi, who currently plays for Porto and Qatar star Al-Moez Ali and Japan’s Takumi Minamino, the Liverpool player.

A total of 16 teams will participate in the tournament, divided into four groups, and the competition is expected to witness great excitement to qualify for the playoffs.

The tournament will witness the participation of 4 teams that have previously won the title along with 9 teams that have reached the semi-finals before, while Tajikistan and Turkmenistan are participating for the first time in the finals.

The participating teams were ranked according to their results in the last edition of 2020 in Thailand, which South Korea won while hosts Uzbekistan came in the first level.

The first bracket included, along with Uzbekistan and South Korea, Saudi Arabia and Australia, which ranked second and third in the last edition.

On the other hand, the second bracket included the teams of Jordan, Thailand, the UAE and Iran, the third bracket included Iraq, Qatar, Vietnam and Japan, and the fourth bracket included the teams of Tajikistan, Malaysia, Kuwait and Turkmenistan.

The Uzbekistan national team is placed in position A1, and each group included a team from each level, and the draw began with the teams of the fourth level.
