Qatar squad named for U-16 Asian Cup qualifiers
DOHA: Abdul Razzaq Haider, coach of the Qatar Under-16 team, on Sunday announced a squad of 24 players for the qualifying campaign for the AFC U-16 Championship 2020.
The event this month will be hosted in Doha from 18 to 22 September. Qatar will compete in Group E with Yemen, Bangladesh and Bhutan.
As part of the West Asia qualifiers, the matches will be played at Aspire Sports Academy in Aspire.
Qatar Football Association (QFA) lays great emphasis on the junior squad that has in the past won the country many events. With World Cup in 2022 in mind, the junior squad is expected to provide quality youngsters to form a strong senior outfit in the coming years.
Coach Haider has put together an interesting bunch of players having managed to manage them at the junior level.
The Qatar players underwent a training camp in Italy from August 1 to 13. In a tournament from Aug 25 to 30, Qatar played matches against Jordan, Indonesia, Maldives and Lebanon.
