Qatar to take one step at a time: Team Director
KUALA LUMPUR: Qatar will take each opponent as it comes, Team Director Fareed
Mahboub said after Al Anabi on Tuesday were drawn with China, Bhutan, Maldives
and Hong Kong in Group C qualifiers.
Qatar, hosts of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, get set to embark on their
attempt to qualify for the tournament in 2018 in Russia.
The reigning Gulf champions disappointingly failed to reach the Asian
Cup knock-out stages in January and they will be keen to show their
worth in international competition.
“It has been a balanced draw,” Team Director Mahboubi said on Tuesday.
“We can qualify for the next stage but we will take one game at a
time,” he added.
“We will be facing teams who play different style of football. So we
are hopeful,” he said.
“I think we must not be overly optimistic,” he said. “We have to
respect all teams.
“Every team will play their best according to their strength and
style. Qualifying for the World Cup is every team’s dream,” he said.
“We have to prepare well,” he said. “We have to play with absolute
seriousness,” he said.
“We will have extensive training camps and a number of friendly games,” he said.
