DOHA: QFA, the game’s ruling body in Qatar, has decided to allow the
national U-20 squad to join the ranks of the Olympic team.

According to QFA President Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al
Thani, the new move will help Qatar maintain a successful structural
base at the youth level.

Qatar’s Olympic squad will feature at next year’ U-23 Asian Cup to be
held in January 2016 as Qatar isattempting to reach the 2016 Olympic

Games in Rio.

QFA President said the main reason for this decision is to help young
Qatar players gain in experience and swiftly graduate to the next
level of football.

He said QFA and Aspire Academy in recent years has been working
together to help youth players reach the U-23 batch and subsequently
the Qatar national squad.

QFA President urged the U-20 players to push themselves as Qatar
builds a core squad that could serve the national team in the future,
especially the 2022 FIFA World Cup to be held in Qatar.

Qatar U-20 squad earlier this month featured in the FIFA U-20 World
Cup held in New Zealand.
