DOHA: Qatar University football team beat Qatar Aeronautical College football team, and were crowned the University Cup champions after winning 1-0 at Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development’s (QF) Pitch 3. University Cup is a collaboration between Qatar Football Association (QFA) and QF, which brought together six colleges and universities from across Qatar to take part in the tournament.

The University Cup is a clear example of QFA’s ongoing commitment to provide a platform for college and university students to be able to play football and sustain a healthy lifestyle.

Hamad Al Kuwari, Acting Executive Director – Operations in QFA commented: “We would like to congratulate Qatar University on winning the first ever University Cup. We are all very proud of the level of football exhibited on the field since the competition begun on 26 February. We look forward to working again with QF next year for the new season in which we will be launching the University Super Cup for the first time ever.”

He further added: “QFA is constantly seeking new ways to promote football at the university level through joint initiatives with local entities and organisations.”

Mohammed Al-Naimi, Director of Community Affairs at Qatar Foundation, said: “Qatar Foundation has a dedicated mission to unlock human potential, committed to providing the resources and tools to the community to demonstrate their skills, talent and sporting endeavours in line with QF’s goal to promote healthy and active living. The University Cup has been a great showcase for students to display their talents and, in doing so, foster community spirit participating in a great sporting tournament.”

The University Cup supports Qatar Foundation’s mission to unlock human potential by encouraging activities through various projects and programmes, including healthy living through sports. The competition has built links between higher education institutions and students across Qatar, reinforcing the importance attached to the wide range of educational and social benefits to pursuing study at university.
