DOHA: On the second day of the annual Doha GOALS forum, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) outlined its Generation Amazing initiative, a key corporate social responsibility programme that empowers a new generation of leaders to use football to create positive change in their communities.

Four of the Generation Amazing ambassadors, Hajer Saleh, Maha Al Suwaidi, Shouq Al Sulaiti and Mohammed Al Mohannadi spoke of their experiences as young Qatari ambassadors and future leaders of their community.

Hassan Al-Thawadi, Secretary General of the SC, introduced the ambassadors and spoke of the inspiration behind Generation Amazing during Qatar’s successful bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ in 2010.

“We were determined to make a difference by empowering a new generation of leaders, capable of making lasting change in their communities. Our aim, regardless of the bid result four year ago, was to leave a long-lasting impact within the communities within the Middle East and Asia. Since we won, our determination was renewed,” Al Thawadi said.

This year, 22 youth ambassadors from Qatar, Jordan, Nepal and Pakistan took part in a 13-day youth leadership trip to Qatar and Brazil for the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ in which they attended three matches and took part in social activities.

“This marked the beginning of an amazing journey for the ambassadors as they develop their leadership potential and their path in becoming an inspiration to their communities,” Al Thawadi added.

“Our generation amazing adventure will have a lasting impact on people’s lives,” concluded Al Thawadi.

“Personally, I’m very excited that I get to be part of a programme that works towards the Qatar National Vision 2030 and empowers youth in Qatar,” said Generation Amazing ambassador Maha Al Suwaidi. “This initiative is amazing in bringing together youth to discuss social issues and empower us to address them.”

“We are blessed to have the opportunity with the Qatar 2022 platform to make a difference,” Al Suwaidi added. “Personally, I’m very proud of Qatar for bringing the World Cup to the region for the first time.”

“In 2022, I aim to be an ambassador for my country,” Generation Amazing ambassador Mohammed Al Mohannadi agreed.

The 2014 Doha GOALS forum closed on Wednesday.
