Doha: The Competitions Committee of the Qatar Football Association has approved the calendar for the upcoming 2022-23 season, which will start in early August with the QNB Stars League, and end with the final of the 51st Amir Cup in May 2023.

Starting dates for domestic leagues

Mr. Hamad Al-Mannai, Chairman of the Competitions Committee of the Qatar Football Association, stated that the football calendar will start on the first of August 2022 with the QNB Stars League, adding that the competition will continue until the 29th of April next year.

He also announced the starting dates for other league competitions, such as the second division league, which will start on the 28th of August 2022, and go on until the 27th of April 2023.

As for the reserve league, it will be held during the period after the 2022 World Cup, with the championship kicking off on the 26th of December and lasting until the 26th of April next year.

Several breaks

Mr. Al-Mannai pointed out that the next season will witness several breaks, especially as the Qatar is about to host the world’s biggest football event, the FIFA World Cup, during the period from the 21st of November and until the 18th of December, in addition to interruptions to the competitions for FIFA international matchdays.

Cup tournaments

As for cup tournaments, Mr. Al-Mannai explained that the Amir Cup, in its 51st edition, will start on the 29th of January with the playoff match in the preliminary stage.

The round of 16 matches of the tournament will start on the 7th of March, and the competition will end on the 5th of May 2023. Meanwhile, the Ooredoo Cup will start on the 19th of September and will continue until the 27th of March.
