QFA chief presides over meeting with U-19, U-16 Coaches
DOHA: HE Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, the President of Qatar Football Association (QFA), on Tuesday presided over a meeting with Felix Sanchez and Oscar Fernandez, Head Coaches of the U-19 and U-16 National Teams respectively.
Also present at the meeting was Mr. Mansoor Al Ansari, Director of National Teams Committee (QFA) and Roberto Olabe, Football Director at Aspire Academy.
During the meeting held at Bidda Tower, the headquarters of QFA, a number of key topics were taken up inter-alia, both squads’ preparations for their next continental events, as Qatar managed to reach the 2014 AFC Cup finals in both categories.
Also was taken into account the scouting process in the local leagues, as the group agreed on broadening the selection pool during the ongoing season before the final rosters are announced.
Qatar qualified last month for the AFC U-19 Cup as group winners after winning all of their matches on the expense of India, Turkmenistan, Nepal and Uzbekistan.
The group winners of the nine groups alongside with six best-placed sides and hosts Myanmar advanced to the final tournament. Qatar, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, Palestine, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Thailand and China hosted the qualifiers involving 40 countries across the continent.
Meanwhile, Qatar made the Asian U-16 finals alongside Oman from Group F, after finishing ahead of Kyrgyzstan and Bangladesh.
The finals will take place in Thailand next year.
