QFA Cup: Exciting battles expected in Round 4
DOHA: The matches of the fourth round of the QFA Cup will start Monday when Al-Sailiya will meet Al-Wakra, Al-Waab will play Al-Shamal and Al-Shahaniya will take on Al-Bidaa.
The matches on Tuesday will see Al-Khor vs Al-Arabi and Lusail facing Mesaimeer. At the same time, the fourth round will conclude on Wednesday with games involving Al-Markhiya, Umm Salal, Al-Kharaitiyat and Muaither at the Grand Hamad and Saud bin Abdul Rahman stadiums.
In the third round matches, Al Shahaniya beat Al Wakra 1-0, Al Sailiya downed Al Shamal 3-2, Al Bidaa edged past Al Waab 2-1, Qatar SC beat Al Khor 3-2, Lusail edged Al Arabi 3-1, Al Kharitiyat crushed Umm Salal 4 -0 while Al Markhiya beat Al Ahly 4-3.
Al-Sailiya leads the first group standings with 9 points, compared to 6 points for Al-Shamal and Al-Bidaa – the second and third teams respectively – while Al-Shahaniya and Al-Waab occupy the fourth and fifth positions respectively with 3 points. Al-Wakra is in the sixth and last place without any points.
In the second group, Lusail led with 9 points from three matches, Al-Arabi is second (3), Mesaimeer third (3 points from two games for both), Qatar SC is fourth and Al-Khor is fifth.
In the third group, Al-Kharaitiyat leads by 9 points compared to 4 for Muaither and 3 for Al Markhiya (from two matches for both). Umm Salal is fourth with one point while pointless Al-Ahli is in the fifth and last spot.
The first and second place winners from each group and the two best third-place teams will qualify for the quarter-finals.
It is noteworthy that the first edition of the tournament was won by Al Sailiya Club, which was held in the year 2021 as a new tournament organized by the QFA to compensate for the downtime (due to the repercussions of the Corona pandemic) and after the end of most of the season’s competitions (except for the Amir Cup).
