DOHA: Qatar Football Association (QFA) President Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin
Ahmed Al Thani on Saturday met with President of Ecuador Lenin Moreno in the
presence of Qatar Ambassador to Ecuador HE Hassan Al Malki as wide-ranging talks
were held among the officials.

The QFA President later signed an MoU in the presence of Carlos Villacis, head of the
Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF), to develop and promote football in both countries.
Ecuador’s Minister of Sport, Andrea Sotomayor, was also present.

The Ecuadorian President welcome the QFA delegation with a warm speech, highlighting
the two countries mutual desire to promote and develop football and sports as a whole. The
President praised the Qatari leadership for promoting sports at a wider scale in the country
and the region.

During the speech, Ecuador’s Carlos Tenorio’s lasting impact at Al Sadd club was widely
applauded. Tenorio scored 113 goals for Al Sadd in eight years helping the Doha giants
claim five trophies during that period.

The Ecuadorian President also stressed on the importance of developing football and hoped
that Ecuador would qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup to be held in Qatar. Ecuador did
not qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup to be held in Russia.

The QFA President thanked the Ecuadorian President for his warm welcome. The QFA
President said Qatar remained committed in promoting and developing football.

The QFA President highlighted the H H the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani’s
visit to Ecuador in 2013 that paved the way for lasting friendship between the two countries
since then.

Ecuadorian Minister of Sport Sotomayor welcomed the move to sign an MoU, saying Ecuador
and Qatar would stand to benefit from the signing of the agreement.

Later the QFA President presented a jersey to President Moreno and other officials present at
the meeting. Mementos were also exchanged.

Ecuador’s Minister of Defense Patricio also attended the signing ceremony.
