DOHA: The Qatar Football Association (QFA) on Saturday named Jorge

Fossati as the new coach of the national side.

QFA confirmed that it had parted ways with Daniel Carreno after the

Uruguayan had guided the national side to the third stage of the 2018

FIFA World Cup qualification.

However, Qatar lost to Iran and Uzbekistan, prompting QFA to name

a replacement.

Fossati, who coached Al Rayyan, has managed the Qatari side previously

in 2008-09.

QFA said Fossati brings rich experience in football coaching, having spent

a number of years in the region.

Fossati last season guided Al Rayyan to the Qatar Stars League (QSL)

title after the side had been demoted to the second tier of football in

the country.

QFA reaffirmed its desire to reaching the 2018 FIFA World Cup to be

held in Russia.

QFA thanked Carreno for his efforts.
