Doha: The stage is set for the launch of the five-team Second Division League that kicks off next week.

This was said at a press conference addressed by Ali Hmoud Al Nuaimi, Head of Competitions, Qatar Football Association (QFA), on Thursday.

“The Second Division League is of great importance for all stakeholders – be it the clubs, the fans or the players wanting to impress at this level,” Al Nuaimi said.

“The QFA is ready to launch the new season on September 20,” Al Nuaimi added.

“The League is part of QFA’s plans to develop the youth football with all seriousness of stiff competition. The QFA also feels proud that it continues improve the technical level of the competition and the players,” he said.

“We are fairly confident that the Second Division football will produce exciting battles and the matches will provide for a platform that players and coaches seek. We wish all the clubs great success in the coming weeks and months,” he said.

“We have developed an integrated media plan for the Second Division football games and competitions in coordination with our media partners. There will also be extensive coverage of this season’s second edition through our social networking platforms”, Ali Hassan Al Salat, head of Communication, QFA, said at the press conference.

The QFA official said print media and television would give plenty of space and time on their platforms to promote the league.

The matches will be played over a period of 15 weeks with a total of 30 matches per season, QFA said, The matches will be scheduled for Wednesday of each week.

It was announced that QFA has a deal with Al Kass Sports Channel to broadcast key matches of the competition live.

The teams include Al Wakrah, Muaither, Mesaimeer, Al Shamal and Al Shahaniya.
