RIYADH: Striker Meshal Abdullah credited team’s fighting spirit for
Qatar’s Gulf Cup win on Wednesday when the visitors beat hosts Saudi
Arabia 2-1

“I think our team spirit was the key. We worked extremely hard and
never gave up even when he had those three draws,” Abdullah said at
King Fahd International Stadium.

Saudi Arabia took the lead through Saud Kariri in the 16th minute but
Qatar hit back just two minutes later through Al Mahdi Ali.

In the 58th minute, Khouki Bualem deflected a ferocious volley past
Saudi Arabi goalkeeper to score the winning goal.

“We were the better side playing with heart and courage,” Abdullah
said after his side won the game in front of nearly 60,000 fans.

Experienced midfielder Wisam Rizq said: “This win will delight our
fans. It was an amazing fight by Qatar. We were confident of fighting
all the way.”

Forward Hassan Al Haydos said: “We thank God for this amazing
achievement. We were together and kept fighting against a very good
team.”
