U-19 squad hits the training pitch ahead of Asian Cup opener
Jakarta, Indonesia: Qatar squad – which arrived on Tuesday have hit
the training pitch ahead of their U-19 AFC Asian Cup opening match
against the United Arab Emirates.
The Qatar squad was received by Indonesia Football Federation and
officials and members of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) at the
airport on Tuesday.
Qatar face UAE on October 18 at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta.
Coached by Bruno Miguel, the squad will train on daily basis until the
day of the match, team officials said on Saturday.
The 2014 champions were drawn in Group A alongside hosts Indonesia,
Chinese Taipei and UAE.
Miguel’s boys face UAE on October 18, Indonesia on October 21 and UAE on
October 24 in the preliminary stages of the tournament.
The four semifinalists will qualify to represent Asia in the 2019 FIFA U-20
World Cup set to take place in Poland next summer.
Qatar won the 2014 edition in Myanmar by beating North Korea in the
final. The champions in 2014 later qualified to play the 2015 FIFA
U-20 World Cup held in New Zealand.
