U-23s beat Yemen in friendly
DOHA: Qatar under 23 beat their Yemeni counterparts 1-0 courtesy
of an Akram Afif goal in the friendly held at Hamad bin Khalifa Stadium
on Wednesday.
The win was more good news for coach Felix Sanchez, coming on the
heels of 27 December’s 2-0 victory over Uzbekistan .
Felix and his group of 25 players will leave for Antalya, Turkey, on
Thursday, Qatar football Association (QFA) said on Wednesday.
In Turkey, Qatar will play a friendly against Iceland on January 6.
The Qatari squad will return to Doha on January 7 and resume training
immediately for the Jan 12-30 AFC U-23 Championship to be held in
Qatar.
The top three sides in the three-week event will grab a spot each in
the football competition at the 2016 Olympic Games to be held in Rio
de Janeiro.
