RIYADH: Coach Djamel Belmadi on Wednesday said his team derseved to
qualify for the semif-finals of the Gulf Cup despite playing out their
third consecutive draw in the event.

Qatar were held to a goalless draw against Bahrain on Wednesday.
Earlier Al Anabi played draws against Saudi Arabia and Yemen.

Belmadi said: “We deserved to qualify despite the draw because we did
not conceded any goal whereas they conceded three goals (against Saudi
Arabia).”

He added: “Our team created many chances to score but luck was not on
our side in the first three matches. We will continue to rectify our
mistakes in order to put up a better display in the semi-finals.”

Belmadi said: “Our first target was to reach the semi-finals and we
have done that. I know the semi-final will be a difficult match. So we
shouldn’t waste opportunities to score.”

The coach said the players must sustain an attacking game to be in a
position to score goals.

He pointed out that absence of strikers Khalfan Ibrahim and Sebastian
Soria have impacted their attacking game.

“I am sure we will put up a much better show in the semi-final,” Belmadi said.
