DOHA: Avazbek Berdikulov, Deputy Director of the Competitions Committee of the AFC, on Tuesday praised Qatar for hosting the AFC Champions League, East Zone matches with ‘fine organization’.
Berdikulov was speaking after conducting the quarterfinals draw at Education City Stadium, one of the venues for the 16-team tournament now into its last stages.
The AFC official specifically pointed out that strict medical protocols that have been implemented by the Local Organizing Committee (LOC).
He said the match venues – three of those being World Cup stadiums – were ‘truly world-class’ that provided the participating teams with all comforts.
The AFC official applauded Qatar for their brave effort of helping AFC to complete the Champions League matches in times of COVID-19.
He said sports-loving countries would learn a lot from Qatar’s top hosting at a difficult time.
On the quarterfinal line-up, he said he expected the two Korean teams Ulsan Hyundai and Samsung - would clash because the rivalry was great between them - but the draw did not bring them together.
He said he is looking forward to the last few days of the event with the final scheduled for December 19, 2020.
