DOHA: The Amir Cup draw will be held on Jan 4, 2021, the Qatar Football Association (QFA) has confirmed.
The draw ceremony – to be attended by QFA officials, team representatives and the media – will be held at Ritz-Carlton.
The 49th Amir Cup draw will be based on the ranking of the teams and their positions in the QNB Stars League for the last season 2019-2020 in which 16 clubs from the first and second divisions were seen in action.
The draw for the Round 16 matches will be conducted after the participating teams have been classified into two brackets.
Group A that will include the first eight teams in the final standings of the QNB League competitions for the 2019-2020 season which are: Duhail, Al Rayyan, Al Sadd, Al Gharafa, Al Sailiya, Al Wakra, Al Arabi and Qatar SC.
Group B will include teams ranked from ninth to 12th place in the QNB Stars League namely Al Ahli, Umm Salal, Al Khor and Al Shahaniya along with the first three-ranked teams of the second division (2020-2019 season) Al Kharaitiyat, Al Markhiya and Al Shamal.
Muaither team, who qualified from the preliminary match that was held between the fourth and fifth place holders in the Second Division, will also be part of the draw.
QFA has confirmed that the first match will be played on January 25.
