DOHA: The draw of the 5th Banks and Financial Institutions League was held in the presence of top football officials on Thursday.
Among those present included Salah Salman Al Muhannadi, Head of Training and Development at the Qatar Central Bank (QCB), Tournament Director Hussein Al Sharshani, General Supervisor of the championship, and Ali Al Athbah, head of public relations at QCB, and former players Khaled Salman and Ahmed Khalil,
The 20-team event, officially backed by Qatar Football Association (QFA), will be held from Feb 1 to 20.
The draw ceremony was supervised by Hussein Al-Sharshani and Ahmed Rumaiha.
The 20 teams have been split into four groups of five each.
The Qatar Central Bank, the Gulf Takaful Insurance, Medina Exchange team and the Qatar National Bank team are at the top of each group.
The tournament will be played on one of the pitches at Al Gharafa Sports Club, organisers said at the draw ceremony.
The first phase of the event will continue until Feb 12. The Quarterfinals will be played on Feb 15 while the semifinals will be held Feb 17. The final will be played on Feb 20.
The overall prize bag of the tournament is QR 180,000. The winners will get QR 60,000 while the runners-up will get richer by QR 50,000. The third-placed side gets QR 40,000 while the fourth-placed team wins QR 20,000.
QFA's Ali Al Salat said at the draw ceremony: "Last year's championship was a resounding success. Such events are reflection of how QFA wants every organization in the country to encourage their employees to play football and show sportsman spirit. I am sure we will see another great edition in 2020 also. One of the reasons to stage this event is to create a spirit of team bonding among residents and to reviving community activities around the country."
