DOHA: Al Khor on Saturday posted a dramatic 10-9 penalty shootout win over
Al Markhiya to advance into the quarter-finals of the Emir Cup football tournament.
Playing attacking games at the Abdulla Bin Khalifa Stadium, Al Khor retained kept
their composure in the penalty shoot-out to emerge winners and set up a last-eight
clash with Al Sadd on May 3.
At the end of full time play, the teams were locked one-all.
Ariel Thierry Ngueukam gave Al Khor the lead in the ninth minute while Saleh Badr
Al-Yazidi equalized in the 56th minute for Al Markhiya.
Thereafter, both the teams tried to break open the defense but without success.
With the teams tied at one-all at the end of regulation time, the tie break system was
implemented. At the end of the first five spot kicks, the teams were tied at five-all thus
the sudden death system came into play.
In the battle of goalkeepers, Mohmad Muntazar Khuroob of Al Markhiya failed while
Khalifa Ababacar Ndiaye scored to take his team to the next round.
The Emir Cup final will be played on May 19 at the Khalifa International Stadium.
