Emir Cup draw conducted at glittering ceremony

DOHA: The Emir Cup draw was held at a glittering ceremony at Rotana City Center Hotel where the entire football fraternity - including coaches and players - converged to know their fate.   Saud Al Muhannadi, Vice President of the Qatar Football Association (QFA), was joined by representatives of the 16 participating clubs at what was a televised ceremony.   The draw was also attended by Ahmed Al-Buainain, Hani Ballan, Mansoor Al Ansari, Hammad and Al Mannai   Retired football stars Younis Ahmed and Mubarak Mostafa were accompanied by players from the Aspire Academy, Saeed Jaber Afifah and Ahmed Al Rumaihi.   ** Draw mechanism The clubs were distributed in the draw according to their rankings in the 2017-18 season of the QNB Stars League and the Second Division. Both ended last week.   The ceremony began with short video footage of the season gone-by. The video also included footage from the playing days of Mustafa and Ahmed.   The first phase of the draw took place and the names and numbers of the fourth and third level teams were eliminated.     The first phase resulted in mouth-watering clashes including that of Al Wakra playing against Qatar SC, Mesameer's meeting with Al Ahli, Al Markhia's date with Al Shamal and Al Khraitiyat playing Al Shahaniya.   According to the draw, Al Sailiya will play the winner between Al Ahli and and Mesaimeer, Al Arabi will take on the winner from the game between Qatar SC and Al Wakra.   Al Khor will play the winner from the clash involving Al Markhiya and Al Shamal who beat Muaither on Tuesday.   In the third phase - which include the four quarter-finals - Al Duhail, Al Sadd, Al Rayyan and Al Gharafa - will be lined up against winners of the second phase.   The second round will be played on April 24-23, the third round will be on April 29-28, the fourth round will be on 3-4 May, the fifth round will be on 11-12 May, and the sixth and final round will be the final on 19 May.
