Ibn Taymiya are School League champions

Doha: Ibn Taimiya High School were crowned School League 2018-19 champions after beating Al Shahaniya High School 4-2 following a penalty shootout after the match ended goalless at Doha Stadium on Sunday. Abdullah Al Misnad High School on the other hand secured third place in the tournament after beating Hassan bin Thabit High School 4-1. The final match and crowning ceremony was attended by Ibrahim Hilal Al Mohannadi, Chairman of the Sub-Leagues Committee at the Qatar Football Association, Chairman of the Qatar School Sports Association (QSSA) Rabia Mohammed al-Kaabi and Ali Al-Hitmi, QSSA Secretary-General. This year, the league brought together 18 high schools from across Qatar competing for the coveted title. The first School League kicked off in 2013-14 in which Ibn Taimiya High School were crowned champions. Mohammed Al Mana High School football team were champions of the second edition, while Al Shahania High School were champions of third and fifth editions, and Ahmed Bin Hanbal High School were champions of the fourth edition. Hilal Al Mohanndi, Chairman of the Sub-Leagues Committee at the Qatar Football Association said: “We would like to congratulate all the three teams that made it this far, and specifically congratulate Ibn Taymiya High School for being champions for the second time. The School League has achieved its’ objective which is to spread the culture of playing football among the youth at the high school level. As part of its’ 2021 vision, the QFA constantly seeks to spread the game among the different segments of the community and the School League is one great example of this vision.” Al Mohannadi thanked the Qatar School Sports Association, Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy for their ongoing support of the School League that undoubtedly contributed to the success of the tournament this year. In its sixth edition, the league is the product of a fruitful cooperation between the QFA and the QSSA as it is in line with both organisations’ goals to instill a culture of football in society and among the youth. The league is under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. Organised by the QFA in collaboration with the QSSA, the School League is sponsored by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy as the official strategic partner, Qatar National Bank as the exclusive financial partner, Nike as the official supplier, and Al Kass Sports Channels as the official broadcaster.
