TASHKENT: Qatar’s three-match winning streak came to an end after
they lost 0-2 to Uzbekistan in an international friendly in Tashkent
on Tuesday.
Odil Ahmedov found the net in the 73rd minute before Marat Bikmaev’s
terrific goal some 13 minutes later clinched the tie for hosts Uzbekistan
in chilly playing conditions.
The defeat was Qatar’s first in four matches, having beaten Ecuador,
China and Palestine in the last six weeks.
The friendly series has been planned by Qatar Football Association
(QFA) to assist the national senior side prepare for the forthcoming
AFC Asian Cup to be held in the UAE.
Coached by Felix Sanchez, Qatar are scheduled to meet Switzerland and
Iceland in friendlies in November.
Qatar are in Group E at the Asian Cup along with Saudi Arabia, Lebanon
and DPR Korea.
Qatar beat Ecuador 4-3 on Friday.
