L’ Alcudia, Spain: Mohammed Waad converted from the penalty
spot in the first half to help Qatar u-19 to a 1-0 win over
Valenciana (a side consisting of the top youth players in the
Valencia region) in the opening match of Group A in the L ’
Alcúdia International under-20 Football Tournament, at Els
Arcs Municipal Stadium, L’ Alcudia.
The win secured Qatar their first three points with three more
games to play in the group stage.
Other teams in the group include Uruguay, Russia and Morocco.
Qatar play Uruguay in their second match on July 30 followed by
a clash against Morocco a day later.
Russia will be Qatar's final opponents in Group A on August 2.
The tournament features 10 teams including Argentina, Mauritania,
Murcia and Venezuela.
The COTIF tournament, originally known as L’Alcúdia International
Under-20 Football Tournament, is an annual football competition for
youth teams, open to both clubs and national and autonomous teams.
