ZURICH: Asian Cup champions Qatar maintained their 55th place in the FIFA world football rankings, remaining the top-ranked side in the Gulf region.
The FIFA World Cup 2022 hosts jumped 38 spots to 55 in February after their stunning victory at the 2019 Asian Cup.
As for the top Asian teams, Iran (21), Japan (26), South Korea (37) and Australia (41) hold the top four berths.
The UAE (67), Saudi Arabia (72), China (74), Iraq and Syria complete the top-10 in Asia.
Meanwhile, Belgium hold on to top spot in the latest FIFA world football rankings while in-form England are on the rise, snatching fourth place from World Cup finalists Croatia.
The top three positions are unchanged with World Cup winners France in second spot ahead of Brazil, in third in the latest rankings.
England move up one place on the strength of convincing Euro 2020 qualifier wins against the Czech Republic and Montenegro last month while Croatia, who reached the 2018 World Cup final before losing to France, retreat one place to fifth.
Germany, rebuilding following their humiliating exit from the 2018 World Cup after the group phase, are also moving up. They rise three places to 13th in the rankings on the back of their victory over the Netherlands in the Euro qualifiers last month.
Austria slid 11 places, the biggest drop in the rankings, after Euro qualifier defeats by Poland and Israel in March.
The next FIFA rankings are expected to be released in first week of June.
At the same time, Qatar will make their debut appearance at the Copa America
