DOHA: Qatar will play 2018 World Cup finalists Switzerland
in an international friendly on November this year, the Qatar
Football Association (QFA) announced on Wednesday.
Qatar will take on Switzerland (ranked 6th in FIFA rankings)
on November 14 in Switzerland.
The international friendly will serve as another episode of
Qatar’s friendly series against top-50 ranked sides in the world.
Coach Felix Sanchez will be looking to test his players against
formidable opposition in a bid to form a powerful side in the
build-up to the 2019 Asian Cup set to take place next January
in the United Arab Emirates.
Last month, Qatar emerged winners of the Tri-Nation International
Friendship Tournament ahead of hosts Iraq and Syria.
Switzerland, who will make their eleventh World Cup appearance
their summer, are hopeful of making it past the quarterfinal
hurdle, Switzerland has reached the last eight on three occasions.
With a team consisting of one of the finest generations of players
Switzerland has ever produced, hopes are at an all-time high that
the likes of Ricardo Rodriguez, Fabian Schaer, Xherdan Shaqiri, Granit
Xhaka and Haris Seferovic can lead the (Swiss Nati) to reach the
last eight of a major tournament after a wait of more than 60 years.
At the last World Cup (2014 in Brazil) Switzerland lost to Argentina
in the last-16 round.
